FAQ
Questions shippers actually ask
Answered in plain terms, on the page — so search engines and AI assistants can quote them.
What documents are needed for import clearance in India?
Import clearance in India is filed as a Bill of Entry on ICEGATE. The core set is the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, and the importer's IEC and GST registration. Add a certificate of origin to claim a trade-agreement rate, and any licence or permit your product needs.
How long does customs clearance take at Mundra?
It depends on three things: whether documents are complete when the vessel arrives, whether the Bill of Entry is assessed without queries, and whether customs orders an examination. Filing the Bill of Entry before arrival shortens it most. Once documents are complete, export clearance typically takes about 24 hours and import clearance about 48 working hours, and it varies with the consignment.
What does a custom house agent actually do?
A custom house agent (CHA), licensed as a customs broker under the Customs Brokers Licensing Regulations, 2018, files the Bill of Entry or shipping bill for you, classifies the goods, follows up assessment and duty payment, attends examination, and obtains out-of-charge so the cargo can leave the port.
Which ports and ICDs do you cover?
We handle cargo at Mundra, Kandla (Deendayal), Pipavav, Hazira and Dahej in Gujarat, plus Nhava Sheva in Maharashtra, and at five inland container depots: ICD Ahmedabad, ICD Sanand, ICD Vadodara, ICD Ankleshwar and ICD Varnama. We also work with exporters based in Morbi, Rajkot, Ahmedabad and Surat.
How is import duty calculated?
Duty is calculated on the assessable value: the CIF value converted at the customs exchange rate. Basic Customs Duty is applied first, then the Social Welfare Surcharge on that duty, then IGST on the value plus both. Rates depend on the HS code and any trade agreement, so confirm them for each consignment.
How do I get a quote, and what do you need from me?
Send the port, the commodity and its HS code if you know it, the container type or the cargo weight and volume, the incoterm, and the cargo ready date. Use the quote form, WhatsApp or a call. We reply within 24 hours with rates and the document list for your shipment.
