Freight Forwarding & Customs Clearance for Project & Renewable Energy
Wind · solar · power · Kutch
How is renewable energy project cargo moved to site?
Renewable energy cargo, such as wind turbine blades, towers, nacelles, solar modules and transformers, is discharged at Mundra or Kandla, cleared as a project import where the project is registered, and moved to site on specialised trailers after a route survey and road permits. Blades and towers are oversized, so the route decides everything.
Kutch and Gujarat host some of India's largest wind and solar projects, close to Mundra and Kandla and to our Gandhidham office. We plan the discharge, the customs filing and the road move together, so components reach site in the order they are erected. Transformers and heavy electrical equipment for power projects follow the same planning. Smaller components can travel in containers alongside the oversized pieces.

Documents
What documents does a project import need?
Project imports add registration and engineering documents to the core set.
Not sure what you have? Send photos of your documents on WhatsApp for a first check.
|---|---|---|
| Commercial invoice and packing list | Yes | Per package, with dimensions and weights |
| Bill of lading | Yes | Often breakbulk, sometimes multiple B/Ls |
| Bill of Entry | Yes | Filed by us on ICEGATE |
| Project import registration | If claimed | Registers the contract to import under the project heading |
| Dimension and weight list | Yes | For lifting, trailers and permits |
| Route survey and road permits | Oversize loads | For moving blades, towers and transformers |
| Certificate of origin | If claiming FTA rate | Can cut duty under a trade agreement |
Requirements change with the destination, the product and the rules in force, so we confirm the list for your consignment with every quote.
Packing & handling
What makes project cargo different?
Oversize pieces, strict sequences and a site that is waiting.
Oversize dimensions
Blades and towers far exceed container sizes and move as breakbulk.
Route survey
Bends, bridges and overhead lines checked from port to site.
Permits and escorts
Road permits for oversize loads, with escorts where required.
Lifting plan
Crane and lifting points planned for each piece at discharge.
Erection sequence
Components delivered in the order the site needs them.
Port staging
Pieces staged at the port or a yard until the site is ready.
Equipment
Which equipment does each component need?
Size and weight of the component decide the vessel space and the trailer.
| Component | At sea | On the road |
|---|---|---|
| Wind turbine blades | Breakbulk, on deck or in the hold | Long blade trailers, with route survey and escorts |
| Tower sections | Breakbulk | Heavy trailers sized to the section diameter |
| Nacelles and hubs | Breakbulk or flat rack | Hydraulic axle trailers |
| Solar modules | Standard containers | Container trailers to site |
| Transformers | Breakbulk, heavy lift | Hydraulic axle trailers, with permits |

Ports
Which ports handle our project cargo?
Mundra and Kandla, the closest ports to the Kutch wind and solar parks.
Related services
What is usually booked with renewable project cargo?
How are wind turbine blades transported in India?
Blades are discharged at the port, staged, and moved to site on long specialised trailers after a route survey and road permits. Their length makes bends, junctions and overhead lines the main constraints, so the route is planned before the vessel arrives.
What is project import registration?
It lets goods for a registered industrial or power project be assessed together under the project import heading, often at a single rate, instead of item by item. The contract is registered with customs before the goods are cleared.
Which ports serve Kutch renewable projects?
Mundra and Kandla are the closest major ports to the wind and solar parks in Kutch, and to our office in Gandhidham. Both handle breakbulk and heavy-lift cargo.
Do solar modules need special clearance?
Imported solar modules are cleared like other goods but may face specific duties and technical requirements, which change with policy. We check the current rules for your modules before they are shipped.
Why is a route survey needed?
Oversize components can only move where the road allows: bend radii, bridge loads and overhead clearances. The survey decides the trailer, the permits and sometimes the route itself.
Can components be stored before going to site?
Yes. Pieces can be staged at the port or a yard until the site is ready, so the erection sequence is kept even when deliveries arrive faster than the site can use them.
Do you handle transformers and heavy electrical equipment?
Yes. Transformers and heavy equipment are planned as project cargo, with lifting, lashing, route survey, permits and hydraulic trailers.
How early should we plan a renewable project shipment?
As soon as the component list and dimensions are known. Route surveys, permits and specialised trailers take time to arrange, and missing the site schedule costs more than the freight.
